WHAT IS SEMAGLUTIDE?

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 agonist that increases insulin secretion, lowers blood sugars, and decreases gastric emptying. This effect in the body produces better sugar control, substantial weight loss, and appetite suppression. This medication is injected once a week and is completely painless. Combining this injectable medication with diet and exercise results in patients losing an average of around 8-15 pounds per month.

Studies done with Semaglutide have also shown to reduce major cardiovascular events such as stroke, heart attack, or death. Our Endocrinologist and Hormone Specialist, Dr. Linette Rivera has studied this medication and recommends it to her patient to produce outstanding results in their overall wellness.

ARE THERE ANY CONTRAINDICATIONS TO USING SEMAGLUTIDE?

Patients who are allergic to this class of drug should avoid it! Other contraindications are patients that are pregnant or breastfeeding or patients with a history of Pancreatitis or Medullary Thyroid Cancer.

HOW DO I TAKE SEMAGLUTIDE?

During your initial appointment, the doctor will go through your medical history and explain in detail how our weight loss program works. You will get blood work done so that she can review not only a basic metabolic panel but a comprehensive hormone panel to make sure you are on your way to success with all your hormones balanced. When you are ready to start your diet, you will get detail instructions and the necessary materials to start everything at home.

After a few weeks your dose will be adjusted based on your follow up appointment with Dr. Rivera and your progress in the diet. ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

It is normal to experience some nausea or decreased appetite while you’re taking the medication. We have some in house techniques to help with these symptoms and minimize the side effects. We combine multiple injections, which also help with fatigue and improve your energy level.

WHAT CAN I EAT?

While you are on the diet, we recommend that you eat healthy foods that are low in fat and low in carbohydrates. Fruits, vegetables, and proteins are the key for success and the best foods to eat while you are taking Semaglutide. There are no foods that are prohibited so if you have a sweet tooth and would like to eat a piece of chocolate occasionally this is not a problem! Do keep in mind we want this to be a lifestyle change and we are training your body to only eat when it’s hungry so be mindful of this.

We also encourage that you incorporate exercise into your daily routine so that you can get amazing and sustainable results at the end of your program.
